I-K-Mediary Network workshop: Draft agenda
Wednesday 4 - Friday 6 November 2009, IDS
The purpose of this workshop is to:
· Strengthen relationships between members and expand membership of the Network
· Further develop collective understanding of the knowledge and information intermediary sector, its role and impact
· Share experience and develop skills in key areas of intermediary practice
· Develop ideas for and work on proposals for collaborative projects and activities
The workshop will be highly participatory. There are a number of sessions where participants are invited to contribute/volunteer/propose topics in advance which are indicated in red below. Feedback on the agenda is also very welcome.

Wed 4 November : building understandings of each other, our work and its contribution

· Update on the I-K-Mediary Network: progress since last workshop and issues arising from Core Group meeting
|

· What’s new in our work?: Demonstrations and presentations about innovations and exciting projects we have been working on

· Understanding impact: analysis of case studies undertaken by I-K-Mediary Network members and discussion of implications for our work. Read case studies (not strictly necessary but they are interesting.

- Peer assists: opportunity to get advice and feedback from peers on a challenge you are facing in your work

- Experience sharing and skills building workshops - parallel sessions
Not all of these sessions will run, it will depend on demand from participants. Topic areas based on workshops the organisers can run! . Suggestions for other topics welcome, particularly if accompanied by offer to run it!

1. Policy Mapping: an introduction to tools and techniques that can be used to map policy processes and discussion of how they can be used by intermediaries
2. Marketing surgery: advice on all aspects of marketing such as new product development, target audience identification and promotional tactics

Portal pitfalls and how to avoid them: it’s a sad fact that many portals fail, this session will explore how to avoid common problems around creating and running portals

5. Lessons learned from MK4D: presentation and discussion of lessons learned from the 4 year DFID funded MK4D programme at IDS

6. Funding intermediary work: seems this is a challenge for many of us! Advice on working with donors and funding agencies and experience sharing within the group (tbc)
7. Upholding editorial quality: setting editorial standards and policies and day to day implementation including creating effective teams
|
|
8. Creating policy briefings: sharing experience from the recently launched Protifolon produced by DNet in collaboration with IDS
9. Information literacy: introduction to key concepts and how it relates to intermediary role

· Group work: Space to work in groups on ideas emerging, proposals or projects. Sessions can be for whole or half morning. Could include:
o Working on collaborative project ideas/proposals
o Thematic/regional huddles
o Working on a joint project (eg benchmarking)
o Blue skies discussions and thinking
